1987 Girls Basketball Team

 

���� The 1987-1988 Warrior girls basketball team brought Wakefield High School its first statewide championship with a 25-1 record.

 

���� Coached by Bernie Plansky, the team finished the regular season at 17-1 (19-1 overall), tied with Belmont for the league crown.The team avenged the seasonal loss to Belmont when they defeated the Marauders on the way to the Division II North crown, which they earned with a 69-44 drubbing of North Andover.Along the way they had defeated four previously unbeaten teams.

 

���� In the Eastern Mass final at Boston Garden, the Warriors stopped Foxboro 54-47 and went on to defeat Monument Mountain of Great Barrington in the state final at the Centrum Center in Worcester 53-48.

 

���� Members of the championship team were: Christine (Marchand) Purcell, Michelle Chase, Stephanie (White) Rice, Lisa Plansky, Mary Beth (Sydlowski) Pichette, Erin Bode, Janel (Gerrior) Stevenson, Julie (Green) Lively, Martha Whiting, Heather Allen, Marybeth Callahan, Jul Gerrior and Dawn Serrechia.Bernie Plansky was the head coach, Barbara Thomas the assistant with Scott Wishart the JV coach. Managers Include Scott Rawson.
