1989 Boys Soccer Team

The 1989 Wakefield High School Boys Soccer team was the school’s first Division I State Champion.  The team was coached by Dick Kelly and assistants Joe McAuliffe and Jim Wood.  Led by quad captains Justin Townsend, Pat Skulley, David Sagarino and Scott Harrington, the Warriors marched through the Middlesex League with a 15-1-2 record, scoring 54 goals while giving up only six.  A total of 12 shutouts were recorded by a very mature defense.

The Warriors went on to defeat Acton-Boxboro 2-1 for the Division I North Championship and Needham for the Eastern Mass. Championship.  Ludlow, the 11th ranked team in the country, was the last to fall to the Warriors, 1-0, as they captured the state title.  Overall they finished with a strong 21-1-2 record.
