Chet Davis
Chet Davis compiled a stunning athletic
record at
Chet climaxed his four-year wrestling
career with a 16-0 record during his senior year to earn All-State status for
the second time and Most Valuable Player honors. After finishing as a state finalist, Chet went
on to become New England Champion at the University of New Hampshire where he
on more matches than any athlete in the history of the university. Chet was also named to the Boston Globe
All-Scholastic Track Team after excelling in the low hurdles and the pole vault.
He established school records in hurdles
(38.8) and the pole vault at 13 feet, 6 inches. Chet won the class state championship in both
of these events.
Chet was also a fine football player. As a halfback he ran for over 200 yards in a
game against Reading and on a cold, rainy Thanksgiving Day game against Melrose
in 1975, scored two touchdowns, the second on a run late in the game to provide
the winning margin in a come from behind 24-16 win.
He capped his high school career by
earning both the Doyle and Squires awards and receiving the WLYN “Best
All-Around Athlete” Award. He was class
president for all four years of high school.
