Wakefield Hall of Fame
Dan Blanchard
Dan Blanchard coached basketball, and tennis at Wakefield High School. He coached varsity tennis from
1974-1978 when in his last year the team posted a record of 16 wins and 4
losses making it the winningest tennis team in school
history. He was the junior varsity
basketball coach from 1966-1971. He may
be best known in Wakefield sports for being the ‘voice of the Warriors’ as he
announced both the football and basketball games for over 40 years.
Mr. Blanchard taught history and social studies in Wakefield for 46 years and was Department Chair
for 26 of those years. Dan was also
involved with the Citizens’
Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield and very committed to the concept of
raising and administering funds for Wakefield students in college. Mr. Blanchard was president of the Citizens’
Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield from 1991-1992 and remained a member of the
board of directors until his death in 2006.
It is only fitting that an award administered by the Citizens’
Scholarship Foundation of Wakefield has been created in his memory. The Dan Blanchard History and Athletics Award
is given to students who are recognized for their
notable achievements in history and their participation in sports at Wakefield Memorial High School.
