Paul Gonnella
was an extremely talented two-sport athlete at
In his senior year Paul was named MVP,
Middlesex League First Team All-Star, first team Boston Globe
All-Scholastic and played in both the Harry Agganis
Game at the Manning Bowl in
A three-year starter in basketball, he
captained the 1987-88 team and was co-MVP his senior year. Paul enjoyed three state tournament
appearances as well as being a member of the Division II North Championship
team in 1987. He scored over 400 points
in his junior and senior year (957 career) with 162 career steals, 373 career
assists and holds the Middlesex League record of 19 points in a quarter. Paul was a two-time league All-Star and a
member of the All League team his senior year.
Paul went on to play football at Springfield College where he was selected first
team All-New England Division II as a free safety as well as being a
preseason All-American pick. After his
playing days, it was only a natural progression for Mr. Gonnella
to go on to become stay involved in athletics.
In the 1997-1998 season
he was the Somerville High School Assistant Coach for running backs and
defensive backs. In 2001-2002 he was at
