Fred Hupprich

Legendary football coach Bill Tighe HOF, a former Warrior coach and longtime head coach in Lexington and Malden spanning 50 years, called Fred Hupprich “One of the best tackles I ever coached.”  Hupprich was an All League and Boston Globe All-Scholastic tackle his senior year while also earning All-Star status on both the basketball court and the baseball diamond.  He was co-captain of the 8-1 Middlesex League co-champion Warrior football team – at the time the school’s best football record ever – and earned the distinction as the highest scoring lineman in the state with three game winning touchdowns.  One of those was against Newton South when he intercepted a pass with 36 seconds left and returned it 35 yards.  In the next game against Lexington, he pounced on a fumble in the end zone and repeated the effort on Thanksgiving Day against Melrose.
