Wakefield Hall of Fame
John L. Moore
Baseball was John Moore’s forte. He was a member of the varsity team as a sophomore, the 1946 squad coached by Jim ‘Hack’ Walsh that posted a 13-2 record and went to the semi-finals of the EMass baseball tournament at Fenway Park. John was also on the varsity in his junior and senior seasons, serving as co-captain in 1948.
John played many positions during his
Earning a scholarship to Boston University, he
started for the Terriers’
baseball team and after graduation was
an
outstanding player in the Maine-New Brunswick League playing for the Presque
Isle Indians. He led the team and league
with a .353 average with nine homeruns and six triples.
Mr. Moore later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 14 months overseas during the Korean Conflict as an infantryman,
James Moore is well known for his service
as vice president of both the Wakefield Trust Company and the Wakefield Savings
Bank. He was also an original member of
two local baseball teams, the Wakefield Merchants in the Intercity League and
the Over the Hill Gang, later playing in the Men’s Senior Baseball League in
