Thomas M. Purcell III

 

     Tom Purcell was a three year starter and one of the best, if not the best, baseball player in the modern era of Wakefield High School sports.  The 1984 Wakefield graduate was a Middlesex League All-Star, the Middlesex League MVP, an Eastern Mass All-Star and Boston Globe All-Scholastic.

     As an outfielder and captain of his senior year varsity baseball team, he was the league’s top hitter in 1984 with a superb .509 average, finishing with a healthy .369 career batting average.  He also enjoyed a remarkable .642 on base `percentage.

     Tom was also a three-year starter and co-captain in hockey and was named an All-Star his senior year.  A two-year starter in football, he received the Charles Doyle Award in his senior year for being the Outstanding Male Athlete.
