Mary Beth (Sydlowski) Pichette

Mary Beth Sydlowski started at young age and may first have turned some heads within the realm of soccer as a six year old starting fullback on a boys ten and under traveling soccer team.  In her freshman year as a varsity soccer player Mary Beth was the team's leading scorer setting a record for first-year players with 16 goals and 17 assists. She was named to the Middlesex League all-star team and was Wakefield’s most valuable player.  In her junior year she set single season Wakefield records with 24 goals and 18 assists. In her senior season, Mary Beth was named team captain, National Coaches All-American and a Boston Globe All-Scholastic for two straight seasons while also being named to EMass, All-State and All-New England teams her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.  By the end of her high school career she had set Wakefield records in goals (83), assists (56) and total points.

Ms. Sydlowski also played varsity basketball for three years.  She averaged seven points and nearly four steals a game as the starting point guard on a team that was 23-1 and made it to the Eastern Mass. Division II final.  Mary Beth was captain of the 1988 division II State Championship team.  Mary Beth was a Middlesex League All-Star her junior and senior years and named a Boston Globe All-Scholastic, a Middlesex League MVP and State Championship MVP.

Mary Beth played tennis during the spring and up until her junior year she compiled a record of 33-5 with doubles partner Sue Higgins.  In her junior year, the pair did not lose a set until the semifinals of the state tournament, and Ms. Sydlowski was named tourney co-MVP.  A four year member of the varsity team, she was a Middlesex League All-Star in her junior and senior seasons.

Mary Beth continued her education at the University of New Hampshire from 1988-1992 and again made a positive impact within a soccer program.  She remains among UNH’s all-time best women’s soccer players in the categories or career goals (30), assists (19) and points (79.)    She was named NSCAA All-Region in 1989 and 1990 and All-New England in 1989 and 1991.  In 1991, Mary Beth was captain of the team that achieved a record of 10-6-1.  Mary Beth Sydlowski-Pichette was inducted into the University of New Hampshire Hall of Fame in September of 2008.
