Wakefield High School Football 1956

This season marked two milestones.  It would be the last season for head coach Tom O’Donnell and it would be the year Wakefield would become a member of the new Middlesex Football League.  In addition, Wakefield would go on to win (tie) the Middlesex League title in the first year of its inception with a record of 5-1-1 in league play.  That year, the league awarded the trophy pictured on the right to Wakefield.

Tom Canavan had a kick-off return of 91 yards for a touchdown against Lexington which still rates among the longest ever in Wakefield football history.

Bob McDonough had 6 touchdown receptions in 1956 for the most ever at that point in  Wakefield Football history.
