Wakefield High Football 1995

The Warrior Football team to play in the fall of ’95 was an amazing group of guys led by the inspirational Ray Boghos.  Seven seniors and another six juniors went on to play college ball and Coach Boghos helped us all in that regard.  We were the most dominant defense the school has seen since the early 1960’s.  Going into Thanksgiving we were giving up under 4 points a game and started the season with 23 straight shutout quarters.  In fact, in week 4 against Belmont when we gave up our first touchdown, D Lineman Tom Sibley, who was an absolute animal, busted through the line on the extra point and blocked it with his midsection he was so pissed.  Next week we went into Woburn for another shutout with the Jason Farrell show.  He put up all 31 points and earned himself High 5 honors on Channel 5 with Mike Lynch.  It was supposed to be a tight game but a goal line stand early and a forced fumble by myself on the 1 yard line was returned by Farrell 99 yards.  Farrell went on to completely dominate the game scoring on a punt return, interception return, fumble return, kicked all 4 extra points and drilled a field goal as well.  These early games led up to a battle at Reading on November 11, 1995 around 11am.  That date is hammered into my head for all of the wrong reasons.  We took an early 2-0 lead on a safety and held that lead late into the 4th quarter.  Coach Kaspersack from Reading took advantage of our aggressiveness and beat us with a halfback pass to Excel Walker to take the 6-2 lead.  We were around midfield with about a minute left, but a lost fumble killed our chances of a last second field goal by Farrell.  The game was an absolute battle and I think all of those who played in it will never forget it.  We ended the season on a winning note beating Melrose in a shootout 28-27.  Starting our sophomore year, Wakefield did not lose to the Red Raiders until 2007.            Captain John Pace Wakefield High School Class of 1996

1995 Middlesex League Standings

Wakefield Football Record Book Qualifiers

Dana D’Agostino had a 65 yard run from scrimmage for a touchdown against Belmont

Jason Farrell kicked field goals of 37 yards against Stoneham and Woburn, 44 yards against Lexington, and 40 yards against Watertown

all of which are among the longest ever in Wakefield history.  There is not a category for longest punts but he did have 57 and 61 yard kicks against Stoneham

There is a category for most points kicked after a touchdown and he had 4 against Watertown and 4 against Woburn.

Jason Farrell scored every point in a 31-0 victory against Woburn.  The 4 touchdowns in one game qualifies

as does a 65 yard interception return, a 58 yard punt return, and a 99 yard fumble return (and  the 4 PATs.)

His 90 points in 1995 and 126 points career also qualify in record book
